FAMOUS QUOTES

-Mark Twain

"Wild animals never kill for sport. Man is the only one to whom the torture and death of his fellow creatures is amusing in itself."
-James Anthony Froude

"Vegetarianism is the taproot of humanitarianism."
-Tolstoy

"The question is not 'can they reason?' nor 'can they talk?', but rather, 'can they suffer?'"

"CRUELTY"

[Non-Human]
Animal Abuse

Animal Cruelty Database via Pet-Abuse.com The 696 (and growing) listed cases of animal cruelty in Canada is not exhaustive, but gives more than enough reaons why Canada needs to update its animal cruelty laws from the 1800s to offer legitimate protection to nonhumans, which in turn will help protect humans.

THE STORY OF KENSINGTON

(The following text contains disturbing content)

In 2001, a cat was taken from the streets in Kensington Market in Toronto. Three "men" named Jesse Power, Anthony Wennekers, and Matt Kaczorowski committed the most despicable acts of cruelty – and video taped it. The cat was strung up by her neck, and while fully conscious she suffered the unimaginable. Her throat was slit, she was disemboweled, skinned alive and her eye was removed with dental tools. She was also stabbed and pinned to the wall with a buck knife. She was eventually decapitated. The cat was later named Kensington.

The [dis]honourable [in]justice Edward Ormston, judge in the Kensington case, who after reviewing a video tape of Kensington being systematically tortured to death by the laughing teenagers, ludicrously claimed that "There are worse ways that this cat could have died...I find the cat died a cruel death at the hands of these men, but I do not find it was the worst offence." After viewing the videotape Ormston said the men could have spent longer torturing the cat, but didn't.

Under Canada's (current) 1892 federal animal cruelty law, the individuals involved only received jail time served on weekends, house arrest, community service and probation.

Please contact Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Minister of Justice Rob Nicholson, and your Member of Parliament to let them know that you want Canada’s antiquated animal cruelty law updated so that our nations most vulnerable are finally given the protection they clearly need and deserve. It is time to stop letting animal abusers get away with torture and murder.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE SWINE FLU OUTBREAK

The farms surrounding the village that is ground zero for this outbreak are subsidiaries of SMITHFIELD FOODS. SMITHFIELD FOODS is the largest PORK PRODUCER in the world and has been repeatedly caught abusing pigs as well as employees. Residents in this town have been complaining for years about the negative environmental and health impacts that these operations have been having in the area - this is a clear example of how [all] governments put the protection of these industries above those of its citizens. Animal agriKulture lobbyists immediately began pressuring the media and other officials to call the virus by a different name in another attempt to distance the connection between animal agrikulture and disease. Some less than reputable media outlets began, on behalf of advertiser interest, to question the relationship between SWINE FLU and PIG FARMS. This flu strain has both human and PIG DNA, patient zero lives at ground zero which is encircled by pig farms. "One-third to one-half of all pigs on modern farms have antibody evidence of the H1N1 virus" -the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC). There would be no SWINE FLU epidemic without pig farms, or BIRD FLU without poultry farms. This outbreak was fully expected, the only surprise was the location, since Chinas agriKulture sector has been so successful recently with cultivating new diseases, such as SARS and BIRD FLU(H5N1), in their country and spreading them around the world.
