PROTECT YOUR LOVED ONES

PLEASE NEVER LEAVE THE ANIMALS IN YOUR CARE OUTSIDE UNATTENDED FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME -- THEY ARE NOT SAFE!!

Ojibway Park Is Still In Peril

Windsor-based Friends of Ojibway Prairie has been tirelessly fighting against special corporate interests bent on destroying and paving over one of Windsors last great green spaces. Once the rare biodiversity in this area is gone, it will be gone permanently.

Don't rely on others to speak for you, Please help them fight against big box store and strip mall development; the last thing Windsor residents neeed is less oxygen-providing plants along with more toxic elements in our environment and asphalt, below living wage jobs, and places to waste dwindling financial resources at on cheap non-essential junk.

It will be interesting to see who has more say on what happens in Windsor, big business and other special interests, or the citizens of Windsor.

"It is the fate of every truth to be an object of ridicule when it is first acclaimed. It was once considered foolish to suppose that black men were really human beings and ought to be treated as such. What was once foolish has now become a recognized truth. Today it is considered as exaggeration to proclaim constant respect for every form of life as being the serious demand of a rational ethic. But the time is coming when people will be amazed that the human race existed so long before it recognized that thoughtless injury to life is incompatible with real ethics. Ethics is in its unqualified form extended responsibility to everything that has life."
-Dr. Albert Schweitzer (Nobel 1952)

Animal Airwaves is CJAM's award winning Animal Rights and information show. The show was founded in 1998 and we are so excited over its success!

Your hosts, Terry and Gayle, discuss all issues affecting [human and non-human] animals today.
They read and discuss the headlines -locally and from around the world- and provide listeners the real-world truth, without the corporate/advertiser muzzle to silence or distort the facts!

Animal Airwaves often brings its audience vital news that truly matters weeks and even months ahead of the mainstream outlets [for example; the health hazards of PBA's].

2009 Jammie Winners!

WINDSOR

First Conviction Under Ontario's New Animal Welfare Act!

Dubious Distinction of Utter Irresponsibility:

There are est.25,000 stray cats (2008-9 stat) roaming the streets of Windsor - this is the highest rate per capita in all of Canada.
In 2008 there were 4,638* cats WECHS had put to sleep. While this total was mercifully below the original estimates of 6,000 this rate is still way too high and could be solved IF certain politicians were to act responsibly regarding this issue.

*Of those, 71 were requested by the owner because the animal was ill, 1032 were medical issues, 505 were wild, and 814 were behavioural. There are some other medical issues that would be separate (eg FIV positive), but most would be covered under medical.

Another reason to love our Humane Society!

WECHS to open on-site low-cost spay/neuter clinic as part of their shelter expansion project to help combat the feline overpopulation crisis!!

ONTARIO

The Amended OSPCA Act [Bill 50] Is Now In Effect!

The Bill overhauls the 89-year-old Ontario SPCA Act to widen the definition of animal cruelty, improve the Society’s ability to address critical animal welfare issues, and allow investigators to bring more abusers to justice.
Proposed changes will have the single greatest, positive impact for animals in the province since the Ontario SPCA Act was enacted in 1919.
Currently the Ontario SPCA lays more Criminal Code of Canada charges against animal abusers than any other provincial organization, because the Society does not have adequate provincial legislation to effectively deal with animal abuse. Passage of Bill 50 (C-373) became more critical since amendments to the Criminal Code (Bill S-203) were approved by the House of Commons on April 9, 2008.
Although Bill S-203 made some near-useless amendments to increase penalties for animal cruelty offences, it failed miserably in a number of critical areas, including closing loopholes in the Criminal Code that make it difficult for enforcement agencies and the courts to convict animal abusers and allowed 99% of incidents to go without charges even being laid.
