"I feel most deeply that spiritual growth compels us in a certain phase to stop slaughtering our fellow living beings for the satisfaction of wants." -Mahatma Gandhi, Nobel Prize winner, 1913
"The day may come when the rest of the animal creation may acquire those rights which never could have been withholden from them but by the hand of tyranny." -Jeremy Bentham (philosopher)
"We do not need any new morals for animals. We must merely stop arbitrarily excluding animals from our present morals." -Helmut Kaplan
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke (1729-1797)
"To a man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and that the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime." -Romain Rolland (author, Nobel 1915)

WHO IS WAAG?
Windsor’s Animal Action{Advocacy} Group (WAAG), formerly known as ARK II Windsor, is a working group of the
Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG).
We serve the Windsor and Essex County area and our mission is to encourage consideration for all animals - human and non-human.
We speak on behalf of those who have neither voice nor vote; the most vulnerable within our society.
We are active in the following areas: animals in entertainment and animals used for fashion.
For information on how you can get involved with WAAG, please email : [NEW!]
windsoranimalrights@live.com
WHAT WE DO.
WAAG's activities are centered around public outreach and education.
We feature information tables and displays at several social functions and events throughout the
year including Earth Day.
Throughout the year our volunteers, who individually are heavily involved with other local human and nonhuman rights/protection organizations, come together participate in peaceful public demonstrations to educate the
public about animal cruelty issues (waag annually protests circuses, the fur industry and the Canadian seal massacre).
WAAG has, in the past, made classroom presentations at several educational institutions in the Windsor/Essex County area,
such as: Belle River, Holy Names, Massey, Villanova, St. Clair College and the University of Windsor as well as displays at the Windsor Public Library's downtown branch.
Furthermore, every Monday from 4pm-4:30pm our volunteers broadcast Windsor's only animal rights program Animal Airwaves
on CJAM 99.1fm. This award winning program discusses all of the issues effecting [human and nonhuman] animals in today’s modern world.
You can also tune in via the web at: www.cjam.ca
THIS IS OUR GOAL.
We, like all animal rights activists, strive to make ourselves obsolete by encouraging the rest of our fellow human beings to adopt the vegan way of living over that of the omnitarian life[death]style; to foster acknowledgment of, and respect for the rights of our fellow sentient creatures --- peace and freedom for ALL.
"Freedom ends where the rights of others begin."

DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF ANIMALS
Whereas it is self evident
That we share the Earth with other creatures, great and small
That these animals experience pleasure and pain
That these animals deserve our just treatment and
That these animals are unable to speak for themselves
We do declare that these animals
Have the right to live free from human exploitation, whether in the name of science or sport, exhibition or service, food or fashion
Have the right to live in harmony with their nature rather than according to human desires
Have the right to live on a healthy planet
-adapted from the proclamation by the 30,000 participants
of the March for the Animals
in Washington, D.C., June 10, 1990

What is the meaning of "animal rights"?
"Animal rights is a philosophy and movement founded on compassion for animals and the right of all beings to live free from exploitation.
Animals, like humans, experience pain and pleasure.
Whatever happens to an animal – whether she is confined or free, neglected or nurtured – means a world of difference to her, even if it matters to no one else.
Recognizing this, animal rights advocates maintain that animals exist not for our use but for themselves, and that we do not have the right to intentionally exploit,
hurt and kill animals simply because we are able."
